AI is everywhere these days, and everyone seems to have an opinion on it. Maybe you were wondering if AI could help you out and build your website for you (or at least give you a huge headstart)?

How can AI help you build your website?

>AI can help you write the content for your website. It can help you come up with the content to get started. Or, if you have a topic already, AI can write it for you. Plus, if you already have content written, AI can help you edit & refine it.

>AI can help find or create images for your website. Of course, if AI can write content, it can also create images! If you give the AI a prompt, it will create an image for you to match that prompt. It can also edit and refine images for you, the same way it does with text.

What if I don’t fully trust AI?

Yeah, I get it. It’s very easy to tell when all these low quality blog posts are floating around. It’s so easy to tell that they are written entirely by AI. They don’t even make sense and repeat themselves. And really, no human wants to read that. Personally, I’m a writer by nature and I love graphic design, so I don’t want to turn that over to AI anyway.

However, even if you would never generate content from scratch with AI, it can still help you out. AI can also do text refinement and help with generating ideas to keep you going. So, sometimes it might be beneficial to use it, even if you’re doing most of the work yourself, as a human being.

Can AI help freelance web developers build websites?

Personally, as a web developer, I would never use AI to fully build a site for a client unless they specifically asked for that. They are hiring ME and trusting ME to build the site for them. And they made that choice based on my portfolio and long history of success with other clients, not on me using artificial intelligence.

That being said, what I would consider doing (with the client’s full knowledge, of course) would be to help my clients with filling in their content on their website. I can see where it’s sometimes hard for my clients to come up with content. They struggle with writing or finding images for about pages, services pages, even the home page. And AI might be able to help out there. But I would never trust the full design or development of a site to AI. Especially when my clients need and want a human touch.

So, should I use AI to create my website?

If you’re not a professional web developer, I personally don’t think that you’ll need to have access to AI for web design all the time. I would recommend using the 30 day free trial while you build your website, and then cancelling your subscription. You really only need it to help you get started and get your website up off the ground. Once you have something live, you’ll just need to maintain it. So you won’t really need the full power of AI once your site is built.

Or, if you really love the images and content that AI is creating and you want to use that to help you continue to create blog posts and other content for your site, considering using AI to replace other programs like Canva. If you have the premium subscription to Canva and can now get all the images you need from AI, then maybe AI can replace that cost. It does give you the power to edit and alter images, so it could be a good replacement for software like Canva. (But personally, you’ll have to pry my Canva Pro from my cold, dead, carpal-tunneled hands.)
